The city of Sioux Falls is the largest in South Dakota and the county seat of Minnehaha County. It is situated along the Big Sioux River, making it home to an estimated population of over 178,000 people. This population is served by one central time zone — Central Standard Time (CST). The most common language spoken in Sioux Falls is English, followed by Spanish. Sioux Falls, South Dakota is in a unique location where multiple climates converges to bring four distinct seasons of weather. Summers are generally warm and humid due to the tallgrass prarie environment and the city's location in the southeastern part of the state. Temperatures range from lows of the mid-50s to highs in the mid-80s. Winters can be quite cold and windy as arctic air often reaches the area through the channelled Missouri River. The normal low temperature during the coldest month (January) is approximately 10 degrees Fahrenheit. Spring and autumn generally bring mild temperatures in the 50s and 60s, although there can be quick bursts of warmer and cooler weather during these seasons. Precipitation occurs throughout the year ranging from lows of around 2 inches in December and January to highs of around 4.5 inches in May and June.

Touring Sioux Falls: Airport and Transportation

There are two airports in Sioux Falls: the Sioux Falls Regional Airport (FSD) and Joe Foss Field Airport (FSD). The Sioux Falls Regional Airport is the main airport and is located 8 miles northwest of downtown. An Uber or Lyft will cost around $20-25 and take around 12 minutes to get from the airport to downtown. Alternatively, there is the Regional Transit Authority (RTA) which provides public transportation from the airport to downtown at the cost of $1.50 per ride. It is not possible to change money at Sioux Falls Airport. However, you can find many banks and currency exchange kiosks downtown.
