Getting to Know Paris
Paris is the capital of France and its largest city, with a population of an estimated 11 million people, making it one of the largest cities in the world. Paris is located in the Central European Time Zone and the main language spoken is French. The local currency is the Euro (€). French is the official and main language spoken in Paris, though you may also hear English and German in some places. Other languages spoken in Paris include Italian, Spanish, Italian and Arabic.
Climate and Weather
Paris sits in a temperate climate zone, with warm summers and mild winters. During summer, which runs from late-May to mid-September, temperatures in Paris can reach upwards of 30°C (86°F). The low humidity levels, however, keep the weather comfortable. Rainfall is spread throughout the year, with a number of cloudy days during the winter months. Average temperatures in winter hover around 5–7°C (41–44°F). Snowfall is not common, but does sometimes occur in the city. On average, Paris enjoys an annual total of 200 days of clear weather, and even more can be expected during the summer months.
Touring Paris: Airport and Transportation
There are three main airports in Paris: Charles de Gaulle (CDG), Orly (ORY) and Le Bourget (LBG).
You can get from the main airport, Charles de Gaulle (CDG), to downtown Paris by taking the RER B train line which costs around 10 EUR. The ride will take 30 to 45 minutes.
You can also take a taxi from all three airports to downtown Paris but the cost will be much higher, at around 40 EUR.
You can change money at all three airports, as each airport has its own currency exchange counter.
