Getting to Know Kasane
Kasane is a town located in the north-eastern corner of Botswana, near the borders with Zimbabwe and Namibia. It has a population of about 19,000 people, most of whom are of the Ngamiland Tswana tribe.
Kasane is in the Central African Time Zone, which is two hours ahead of UTC/GMT (UTC+02:00). The official language of Botswana is Tswana, but English is also widely spoken.
The currency of Botswana is the Botswana Pula (BWP). Visitors can exchange foreign currency in banks, ATMs and hotel exchange counters.
Climate and Weather
Kasane is the gateway to the Chobe National Park and is located in Botswana’s far north east. The climate is that of a hot and humid tropical one, with an average temperature of 28°C (82°F). During the dry winter season (June to September), the temperature can drop significantly in the evenings and early mornings. The wet summer season (October to May) is characterized by heat and humidity with the occasional thunderstorm and occasional downpours. The rainy season is the most beautiful time of the year in Kasane, with lush green landscapes, beautiful wildflowers and amazing birdwatching opportunities.
Touring Kasane: Airport and Transportation
There are two airports in Kasane, Botswana: Kasane Airport (BBK) and Ngoma Airport (NGM). The main airport is Kasane Airport (BBK) which has both international and domestic flights. You can get to downtown Kasane from Kasane airport by taxi. The cost is usually P200 to P300 (~ $20-30 USD). You can also take a shuttle from Kasane airport to downtown Kasane for P35 (~ $4 USD). There are no currency exchange services at Kasane airport, so it is recommended that you exchange currency in advance or at banks/hotels in town.
