The city experiences very long, cold and snowy winters with average winter temperatures dropping to -19°C. Summers are relatively warm, however temperatures are still rather mild, staying between 15-20°C on average.
Precipitation is abundant, with over 800 mm of precipitation a year falling in the form of rain and snow with the latter being the main form of precipitation. Snow falls can be quite heavy at certain times with average annual totals of more than 200 cm a year.
