Getting to Know Doha

Doha, the capital city of Qatar, is home to more than two million people. It is a modern, diverse and vibrant city, both in terms of its population and its economy. Doha is located in the Arabian Gulf Time Zone ( Zone UTC+3), which is two hours ahead of Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). Arabic is the official language of Doha, with English and French also being widely spoken. The currency of Doha is the Qatari Riyal (QAR). There are many banking facilities in Doha which offer a range of services, including international money transfers. Prices are typically quoted in both the Qatari Riyal and US Dollar.

Climate and Weather

Doha has a hot desert climate with very hot summers and mild winters. The average monthly temperature ranges from the mid to high 20s Celsius in winter months to 42-46 Celsius in the summer months. Rainfall is minimal and falls mainly between December and March. The city’s humidity levels tend to be quite low, typically ranging from 50 to 65 per cent. Doha can be subject to sandstorms, which generally take place in March and April when the winds are strongest. There are also occasional dust storms and sandstorms specific to the region. The temperature can range from 10 to 15 degrees during the day and drop to around 3-4 degrees at night. Although the weather in Doha is usually fairly consistent, the city can experience sudden drops in temperature or higher than usual humidity levels due to periodic changes in the direction of the wind. This is caused by the intense monsoon climate of the desert and can temporarily affect the temperature.
